Rooftop Bars

Córdoba is not a city of skyscrapers, so a rooftop here is usually two or three floors up, but that is enough to look out over the old town. These are the two rooftop terraces we have actually sat on, with our honest verdicts.

Our verdict

We have been to both of these places. Our ratings are out of five and come from our own notes, not from a review site.

Horno San Luis: a rooftop cocktail bar next to the Mezquita

Our rating: 3 out of 5. Horno San Luis occupies a three-storey building next to the Mezquita: according to its listing, the lower floors are the restaurant and the top floor is a terrace bar with views of the monument. For us the food was tasty but not very special, so we would not come for dinner. As a cocktail bar, though, it is a lot of fun, and the roof terrace is the reason to go. Our advice is to come for a drink, ideally around sunset, and eat somewhere else: see restaurants near the Mezquita for our picks.

La Taberna del Río: a rooftop and a sunny lunch by the river

Our rating: 4.5 out of 5. La Taberna del Río is on the Ribera side of the old town, and according to its listing it has a rooftop terrace with views over the river. We went at lunchtime: it is right in the sun, on a busy spot, which makes for a lively atmosphere, and the nachos with guacamole and burrata, the croquetas and the gyozas all got our approval. If you want to combine a long lunch with a walk to the Roman Bridge, this is where we would do it.

A few tips for terraces in Córdoba

The sun is strong for much of the year, so choose your seat with care and bring a hat. In July and August the middle of the day is simply too hot for most terraces: see our guide to summer in Córdoba and the weather guide. Evenings are when the terraces fill up, so book for dinner, and for a sunset drink arrive early to get a good spot.

For a terrace that is not on a roof, Fusión by Sojo has a quiet one under orange trees and vines, and Mercado Victoria is a lively place for a drink, with plenty of shade.

After a drink, you are well placed to walk through the Judería or along La Ribera at night: see our guide to things to do at night. For a more romantic dinner, see our romantic restaurants.
