Season by season

Spring (March to May): the most pleasant time. Highs rise from about 21°C in March to 28°C in May, with long sunny days. It is also when the big festivals take place: Semana Santa, the Cruces de Mayo, the Patios Festival and the Feria.

Summer (June to August): very hot. Average highs are 33 to 37°C, and the city regularly goes above 40°C in the afternoon. Plan sightseeing early in the morning, and use the middle of the day for shade, museums and baths. In our experience, life shifts later: people eat and go out late in the evening.

Autumn (September to November): September is still hot, with an average high of 31.6°C, and October is warm and pleasant, but it is also one of the wetter months. The source recommends April, May and October as the best months to visit.

Winter (December to February): mild days of around 15 to 17°C, cool nights and the most rain, especially in December. It is a quiet season for visitors.

From experience: the summer heat

We lived in Córdoba through a summer. It was regularly above 40°C, and one day the outside-temperature display in a taxi showed 54°C. Readings like that in the sun on the street run higher than official air temperatures, but it shows how intense the heat can feel. We spent a lot of time indoors, and played padel at night: sometimes the court time was 23:30 and it was still 35°C. Read more in our guide to summer in Córdoba.

What to pack

In spring and autumn: light layers, a jacket for the evenings and a small umbrella. In summer: light, breathable clothing, a hat, sunscreen and a reusable water bottle. In winter: a warm coat for evenings and an umbrella.

Whatever the season, wear comfortable shoes: the old town streets are cobbled.
