The Roman Bridge crosses the Guadalquivir just below the Mezquita and is one of the best places to see the old town from the water’s edge.
About the bridge
The bridge dates back to Roman times and has been rebuilt and repaired many times since. Today it is used by pedestrians and is a popular place for a walk, particularly around sunset. At its northern end stands a 17th-century monument to Saint Raphael, and it has also appeared as a filming location in the television series Game of Thrones.
The Calahorra Tower
At the southern end, the Calahorra Tower is a fortified gate that today houses a museum. Crossing the bridge to the tower gives you the classic view back towards the Mezquita and the old town skyline.
Practical tip
Combine the bridge with the Mezquita and the Alcázar in one route. Opening times of the tower and museum change, so check before you go.
