Mercado Victoria is a food hall with around thirty stalls in the Jardines de la Victoria, a short walk from the old town. It is a good place for a relaxed lunch or an evening drink when you want variety.
Our rating: 4 out of 5
We visited Mercado Victoria and photographed one of its food stalls. We rate it 4 out of 5, our own opinion.
What it is
Mercado Victoria is described as the first gastronomic market in Andalusia, opened in May 2013. It has about 30 stalls that offer both fresh products and food ready to eat, in the middle of the Jardines de la Victoria, about five minutes from the historic centre.
A building with Feria history
The building dates from 1877 and was the oldest caseta of the Feria de Córdoba, which was held in the Jardines de la Victoria until 1994, when it moved to El Arenal. A one-storey pseudo-Mudéjar addition by the architect Adolfo Castiñeyra was built in 1918. Read more about the fair in our Feria guide.
What we think
Food halls are good all-rounders: there is always something you fancy, which makes them perfect when a group cannot agree. We found Mercado Victoria especially good for a relaxed drink and a few bites, and the atmosphere is always buzzing. For a sit-down dinner we would choose one of the places in our ratings table, but for variety and a lively evening it is hard to beat. It is also a very different experience from a sunny lunch at La Taberna del Río.
Hours
According to the tourism listing, the kitchen is open from 9:00 to midnight from Sunday to Wednesday and from 9:00 to 2:00 from Thursday to Saturday. Hours change, so check before you go.
