The streets around the Mezquita are full of restaurants, and it can be hard to choose. These are the places we ate at near the monument, with where they are and what we had.
Where we ate
These are restaurants we visited ourselves, while living in Córdoba and on later holidays. Addresses and descriptions come from the restaurants’ own listings; the ratings (out of five) and verdicts are ours.
In the Judería
La Chiquita de Quini is a gastrotaberna on Calle Manríquez, about 200 metres from the Mezquita, mixing flamenco and gastronomy. We tried its pan bao.
El Rincón de Carmen is on Calle Romero, in the maze of lanes around the Mezquita, with a genuine Córdoba patio. We had seared tuna with grilled vegetables.
Near the Plaza del Potro and the river
Fusión by Sojo is on Calle Enrique Romero de Torres, close to the Plaza del Potro, the Mezquita, the Judería and the river, with a terrace under vines and orange trees. La Taberna del Río, a few doors away, has traditional Córdoba cooking, Asian-inspired dishes and a rooftop terrace. We had croquettes, nachos and gyozas.
A little further away
Puerta Sevilla, in San Basilio, is a few minutes from the Mezquita and the Alcázar, in a 200-year-old house with a flower-filled patio.
Our verdicts, place by place
El Rincón de Carmen (5 out of 5). Our favourite in the whole city, in the Judería and a short walk from the Mezquita. We went four or five times, for the excellent meat, the friendly staff and the patio.
La Chiquita de Quini (food 5, staff 1). Unbelievably good food and a fun patio with a performance, but the service was poor and the staff unfriendly in our experience.
Horno San Luis (3 out of 5). Next to the Mezquita. The food was tasty but not special, while the roof-terrace cocktail bar is a lot of fun: see our rooftop bars.
Taberna Casa Pedro Ximénez (2 out of 5). On Calle de los Deanes, steps from the Mezquita. Fine just to eat, but nothing special: it felt like a living room.
Taberna La Alquería (3 out of 5). Not the most luxurious, but more than fine for an evening on a very cosy street near the Plaza del Potro, where Fusión by Sojo and La Taberna del Río are also close.
More options near the Mezquita
We have not eaten at Casa Pepe de la Judería and Taberna El Nº 10, but both are in the Judería and listed in the Michelin Guide. Read our best restaurants page for the full picture.
Tips
Restaurants close to the Mezquita are popular, so book for dinner. Córdoba eats late: see our lunch guide for meal times.
