Ciudad Jardín

Ciudad Jardín (Garden City) is a residential district west of the city centre, away from the old town and the main sights. It is the kind of area where people live rather than visit.

Where it is

Ciudad Jardín lies in the Poniente-Sur district. Its boundaries are the Avenida de Medina Azahara to the north, Gran Vía Parque to the west, the Avenida del Aeropuerto to the south and the Avenida República Argentina to the east.

Why the name?

It was one of the city’s early expansion neighborhoods. Its name comes from the original plan, which included gardens and parks across the area, although that vision was not fully realised. The district lacked parks until late in the twentieth century, when two major green spaces were added: the Parque Juan Carlos I and the Bulevar de Hernán Ruiz.

What is there

The district contains the Rectorate of the University of Córdoba, the Military Casino and the Church of the Immaculate Conception and Saint Albert the Great.

Who it suits

Residents, students and long stays, rather than sightseeing. For a short visit, stay in the old town.
